Thanks for taking the time to check out my website! As you know, my name is Rachel Fawdry and I am the author of the Missing You Series. I’m really excited to be able to share my books with you because family is really important to me, and I wrote these books so my husband and son would be able to feel like they were together, even when they were apart. I hope they make you feel more connected to your family too!
Over the years, I have been a stay-at-home mother, a full-time student/full time parent (while being at home with twins!), a copywriter, and I am now a teacher! My children are my son Jack and two identical twin girls named Eva and Marie. I love spending time with my family, and we especially love going for hikes in the beautiful Rocky Mountains! My husband Jarrett is a full-time nurse, which leaves me lot’s of time with the kids. It’s a busy household, and there is never a dull moment in my house! If you are interested in the workings of my crazy life, you can check out my blog One Mom to Rule Them All. I share parenting tips and easy recipes for the family.
If you couldn’t tell by my blog name, I have a bit of a nerdy side, and I love all sorts of books and movies. Lord of the Rings, being one of my favorites. Since I’m talking about my nerdy side, I am also a HUGE Disney fan, which is definitely being encouraged by my children who also love Disney.
My other guilty pleasure is musicals. I met my husband when we performed in a community theater show together. My dad introduced me to musicals at a young age and I can’t get enough of them now. If I could pick one musical to star in, it would be Belle in Beauty and the Beast. (See! Disney again.)
Books have always been a big part of my life. Random fact: the books you see in the background of the photos are from my personal library! Some of my favorite memories were reading with my mom and dad when I was young. I love being able to read with my kids now! Other memories were losing myself in books to get away from the reality of adolescence. (Let’s be honest, being a teen is hard.) When I went to university, I decided to pursue a Bachelor of English because of that love for reading and writing. In 2013, I got my BA from the University of Calgary.
A few months after graduation, I found out I was pregnant with my son, and life was put on hold for a while. When my husband went back to work I decided to write a book to ease the guilt he felt when he left for work, and to allow Jack to see his father every day. This became the start of a wonderful journey that has combined all my dreams into one project.
Ever since I was little, I wanted to help people. I didn’t know how, but I have been volunteering my whole life, and I have always known that I wanted to make a difference in the world. I have also always wanted to write books that would make an impact. I know many children escape into the world of books, just as I did when I was young, and I hoped that one day, they could escape into one of mine and help them get through a rough time.
I now have an education degree that allows me to work with children and families to help instill a love of learning as well, as I truly believe literacy and reading is an important skill to learn and appreciate.
If my books help even one family feel connected and ease the guilt of one parent when they leave home, then I will have fulfilled my dream. (Hopefully, it’s more than one though!)
I hope you enjoy my books! Thanks again for taking the time to read a little about me. It may not be a traditional “About Me” page, but hopefully, you learned something interesting about me!
